Why Your Business Needs a Leash Law

Imagine if your business allowed employees to bring their pets to work. And not just dogs and cats but any kind of pet.

Larry in Accounting might bring his Rottweiler, Sue in Sales would bring her hamster and Greg in Shipping could decide to bring his snake. Now imagine that you put absolutely no restrictions on these pets. Larry’s Rottweiler is free to scrounge around in the garbage, Sue’s hamster is set loose in the lobby and Greg’s snake, well who knows where it is. It would be utter chaos. It doesn’t take long before you realize that you want your employees to have freedom but not like this.

Allowing your employees to bring their own devices (BYOD) to work can create a similar situation. If every employee is using their personal laptops, tablets or phones at work, there’s a much greater risk of lost or stolen data. Just like with Larry’s dog and Greg’s snake, you’ve got to put some restrictions on how these devices interact with the other technology in your office.
