Decrypt the Mysteries Behind Encryption

Encryption is one of those words that you hear your IT guys throw around, but most of us don’t really understand what encryption is or why it is important that we use it. When we try to conjure up an image of encryption the best we can find is a random still from a James Bond movie. Blough Tech wants to “decrypt” encryption for you, by taking it out of the spy movies and into your office!

Encryption works like a lock and key. When you save an encrypted file or send an encrypted email, encryption software will lock that file by converting it to what amounts to intelligent “gibberish.” Encryption uses a key that can decode your file at the other end. While your file is bouncing from server to server, the content of the data is indecipherable.
