The Dirty Dozen of PCI

Movie bu s probably have e Dirty Dozen somewhere in their collection of old DVD’s. Its one of those great war movies from the 1960’s that feature a huge line-up of stars- Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Bronson, Telly Savalas and a very young Donald Southerland.

e plot of the movie was simple. Allied forces are preparing for the D-Day invasion and Major John Reisman (Lee Marvin) is tasked with gathering a small band of the Army’s worst ex-soldier convicts (some awaiting exe- cution) for a secret mission to eliminate a meeting of German o cers who could thwart the success of D-Day.

So, what does this have to do with PCI-DSS Compliance? Well, the majority of e Dirty Dozen movie was spent on two goals: gathering the right soldiers (tools) and preparing for the mission (compliance.)

As a small business owner, you’re on the same mission. In order to be compliance with PCI-DSS, you must have the right tools in place and you have to prepare for your primary mission: keeping customer’s credit and debit card data secure.

In the movie, Lee Marvin didn’t just ‘shoot from the hip’ and hoped everything turned out okay. He had a plan. And that’ s exactly what you have to do. Have a plan and stick to it.
